If you have suffered for months perhaps even years with unsightly acne and/or other skin conditions, tried numerous products with no success, perhaps even gone to the doctor but still have had no joy.
By this time you have perhaps resigned yourself to the fact that there is nothing that can be done and given up completely, but don’t be defeatist.
By making a few small changes you can make your skin look much better.
1- Get More Active! :
Exercise lowers levels of cortisol (the chemical that makes you feel stressed) in the body and releases more endorphins (the feel good chemical).
This stops your body overproducing immune cells so you maintain normal levels of sebum, too much sebum production causes spots.
It also helps remove toxins from the skin, any foreign particles and the layer of film that grows on the skin that causes inflammation due to the immune response; this makes you a lot less likely to suffer from acne.
2- Thoroughly Cleanse Your Skin Before Going To Bed :
Did you know your pillowcase is an excellent breeding ground for germs ? Especially if you do not remove your make-up before going to sleep, this also blocks your pores.
If you have slept in make-up you’ll know how hard it is to remove the next day because of this reason.
By cleansing and particularly moisturising your face before bed, as our body’s internal temperature rises slightly at night, the facial muscles and pores relax which allows skin care product to penetrate the pores more easily which makes it more effective.
3- Lower The Stress In Your Life :
It’s no secret that stress affects your health and takes a toll on your skin which in time will show on the surface.
If you have anything bothering you it is best to talk to someone as bottling up feelings will not only affect your mental health but also cause over-production of oil and inflammation which will result in bad skin.
There are plenty of ways to relieve stress, take up a hobby, go for a walk, go to a yoga class, or even buy a pet.
All these things will help you to stay happier and a reduction in stress will mean your overall health is improved and it will be reflected on the outside.
4- Don’t Skimp On The Sunscreen! :
Many people with acne wrongly believe that direct sun exposure is good for acne.
In many cases this exacerbates the problem, not to mention if you do not wear sunscreen this puts you at great risk of skin cancer.
Wear a sunscreen with an SPF of 30 minimum every day; remembering to re-apply if swimming or sunbathing.
Stay out of the sun between the hours of 10am and 4am. Sunbeds are a no-no, if you must have a tan, use a good quality fake tan.
